In 1977 Othman got married to a British girl. Jacqueline Redall.

Othman and Jacque both moved to Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

In Othman's first year of living and studying in the states he had to learn English. Othman went to the Atlanta Arts Institute for 2 years where he studied photography. Othman was the first Arab to step outside of the United Arab Emirates to do a degree in photography.

Othman embraced and enjoyed living in America . Through his time out there he had to adjust to the western world. Othman found inspiration and his passion grew for his love photography.

Othman graduated in 1981 with exceptional grades. A couple of his assignments were thought to be a bit gruesome. Othman presented a black and white series of photographs of how Halal was performed. The images were of a goat being slaughtered in Islamic form. Othman’s tutor looked at the first couple of images and stopped. Without continuing to look through anymore photographs, Othman’s tutor gave him an A* with full understanding and respect for what Othman had presented.
